Uploading and Replacing Floor Plans

Accepted file types and the 25 MB limit, which locations can host a plan, how multipage PDFs are split or mapped to floors, and what a re-upload does to existing pins.

Updated September 15, 2026

Before you upload

A plan attaches to a location node, so the node has to exist first. Only floor and building nodes can host one. Uploading to a room or an area is rejected; correct the node's type instead. Floor plans need Professional or above, and uploading is an admin action. If the tree is not ready, see Location hierarchy and naming.

What you can upload

PNG and JPEG images, and PDF files including multipage architectural sets. The limit is 25 MB per file. PDFs are rasterized on upload at 150 DPI, and very large pages are scaled down to stay under 8,000 pixels on the longest side, so an oversized sheet becomes a large image rather than a failed upload. Password-protected PDFs and PDFs with no readable pages are rejected.

Floor-plan files count toward your organization's storage quota, as do the retained PDF sources used for room parsing. An upload that would exceed the quota is rejected at upload time, not accepted and truncated.

Uploading a plan

Open the facility, go to Locations, pick the floor or building, and open its floor plan. Choose Upload plan and select the file. Rivolq validates type, size, target node, and storage quota before storing anything.

For a multipage PDF, if the facility has no floor nodes yet, Rivolq can split the PDF into one floor plan per page and create the floors as it goes. If floor nodes already exist, Rivolq does not guess: it previews the pages and asks you to map each one to the correct floor. Every page must be matched to a floor and a floor can only receive one page. The Attach pages button stays disabled until both hold.

Replacing or removing a plan

Re-uploading to the same node replaces the image and increments the plan version. Pins are stored as normalized coordinates rather than pixels, so they survive a re-upload of the same layout at a different resolution. After a genuinely different layout the coordinates still resolve but point at the wrong places, so walk the pins and room shapes before trusting them. Deleting a plan clears the image from the node; it does not delete assets or change any asset's location.

After the upload

If room parsing is enabled, the plan is queued for room detection as soon as it lands; see Reviewing parsed rooms and plan readiness. If it is not, or the parser cannot read the drawing, pin assets directly onto the image and draw rooms by hand; see Placing and managing asset pins.
